For Young People
This is family therapy, not “fix the youth” therapy. Brief Strategic Family Therapy, or BSFT, is for families dealing with conflict, communication problems, behavior concerns, or other challenges that are affecting the whole family. A trained therapist helps your family understand patterns that keep problems going and practice different ways of communicating, solving problems, and handling conflict. You won’t be expected to sit in a room while adults explain everything you’re doing wrong. The therapist focuses on the family and the relationships between you. BSFT is a short-term therapy model that usually includes weekly sessions over several months. Families can ask about BSFT directly, and schools, courts, child welfare, behavioral health providers, and other community partners can also help connect a family. Call, email, or message Youthworks to learn more.

For Parents, Caregivers & Community Partners

Brief Strategic Family Therapy is an evidence-based, short-term family therapy model for families experiencing behavioral concerns, family conflict, communication difficulties, or other challenges affecting family relationships. Rather than locating the problem within one family member, BSFT helps families recognize interaction patterns that may contribute to conflict and develop more effective ways of communicating, problem-solving, and supporting one another. Treatment generally includes 12–16 weekly sessions and can take place in settings that work for the family. Families may inquire directly, and referrals may also come from schools, courts, child welfare, behavioral health providers, and other community partners. Call, email, or message Youthworks for information about eligibility or connecting a family with BSFT.
